Day 8 Post op

well its day eight post op and my knee is feeling great. I have found that as the swelling moves away from the joint, the knee feels tighter both in full extension and also through early stages of flexion.

My antibiotics seem to be doing the job as i have had minimal pain from my skin infection.

Todays and also the next three days of rehab exercises consist of the program below:

Proprioception: Eyes closed, rolling ball round foot, touch nose whilst on one leg, brush teeth on one leg.
Flexion as much as possible without pain
Patella mobilisations
basic backwards oand forwards on a wobble board
Work on gait pattern and ghet as close to normal as possible

Pretty basic i know but hey its a start

Infection

ok so here i am on day 7 and my knee is feeling sensational!

One small but painful problem is that i was back at hospital yesterday with suspected DVT. Luckily the doctor thinks it is not DVT and is in fact a skin condition called cellulitis. This is a deep skin infection and becomes sore especially when walking and the pressure of my swelling runs down my leg. My cellulitis is two small spots on my shin bone midway down my lower leg.

This has stopped me from going to training (physio) today and i have two forms of penicillin as my antibiotics. i have had to up my painkillers again too as it is quite sore. Doc said to keep the site cold with ice and elevated as much as possible.

From my knees point of view this infection is stopping me progressing with my proprioception drills which i was getting quite good at. I had mastered eyes closed on the back leg in bare feet for 30 secs!! on my good leg it was only 28 secs yesterday so i was happy about that.

I have full hyperextension in my knee and also very good isometric quad strength. my flexion is limited to about 70deg still and i thin my sutures cause that somewhat. I am dont want them buggers bleeding on me anymore.

Anyway heres to penicillin healing my infection and hamering the rehab again tomorrow!

Operation

hey so this is my first blog.

I have had an MRI and it said i have ruptured my ACL but not caused any other damage thankfully!
I am in the Spire private hospital in Bristol for my surgery with Dr Jonathan Webb. I am very happy my knee is in his hands as his reputation is excellent.
I have had the same surgery on my left knee before but so far its all been a little different.
The Anaesthetist told me there will be no nerve block which i hgad last time and that Dr Webb is pioneering research that is based around injecting lots of local around the surgery site during surgery and then managing pain afterwards as needs be.
They say this will allow me to start rehab sraight away!

Well here goes.....
